Michigan Courts One Court of Justice Search Instructions

Following to above instructions will take you to the Michigan Courts One Court of Justice Website.  As of the date of this blog, this website allows you to search cases from the following courts: Ann Arbor, Eastpointe, Hazel Park, Highland Park, Lansing, Mason, Oakland [County] Probate/Juvenile, Oakland [County] Clarkston, Oakland [County] Novi, Oakland [County] Rochester Hills. Oakland [County] Troy, Pontiac, Taylor, Washtenaw Courts, Wayne.

The first step is to complete the task to prove “I am not a robot”.  Click the “I am not a robot” box.  You may need to follow the CAPTCHA verification.

The second step, once this is completed, is to choose the correct Court.  Simply scroll through the choices provided until you find the selection “Oakland Troy”.

Third, you enter the last name and the first name of the person you are searching for.  Once the name is entered it will provide a list of cases for that individual.  If you do not have the complete name of the individual, you can choose to only enter the last name.  The screen will give you the opportunity to see other individuals with cases that are or were before the court.  Click “Next Page” to see more entries.

There are several categories of information that you are provided with on the screen:

Name – the name of the individual.  It is listed last name/first name/middle name

Party – P is Plaintiff. D is Defendant.  The number afterward signifies the number of Plaintiffs or Defendants.

Court – D5240 represents District Court 52-4th Division.

Case Number – The first two digits are the year that the case was filed.

Type – This refers to what kind of case was filed.  The two letters are case abbreviations.  The following are a list of the abbreviations: EX (Extradition/Detainer); FY (Felony Criminal); OM (Ordinance Misdemeanor Criminal); SM (State Misdemeanor Criminal); FD (Felony Drunk Driving); FT (Felony Traffic); OI (Ordinance Civil Infraction); OY (Ordinance Misdemeanor Traffic); SD (Statute Misdemeanor Drunk Driving); SI (Statute Civil Infraction); ST (Statute Misdemeanor Traffic); OK (Ordinance Parking); ON (Ordinance Civil Infraction Nontraffic); SK (Statute Parking); SN (Statute Civil Infraction Nontraffic); GC (General Civil) all civil cases except small claims, landlord tenant, and land contract; GZ (Miscellaneous Civil); SC (Small Claims); LT (Landlord Tenant Summary Proceedings); SP (Land Contract Summary Proceedings).

Sts (Status) – Whether the case is C (Closed), P (Pending), or H (purged from the system).

Fourth, clicking on the name of the individual will provide you with the docket record concerning the case.  The information listed will provide you with the names of the parties, the names of the lawyers, and a history of what happened concerning the case.

It is important to note that felony offenses that allegedly occurred in Troy or Clawson start at the 52/4 District Court and continue to the 6th Circuit Court in Oakland County.  In order to search this website

Please be advised that there are statuses in the law that prevent a public record from appearing for misdemeanor and felony convictions.  If the individual received HYTA (Holmes Youthful Trainee Act), 7411 status (for drug offenses), 769.4a (for domestic violence cases), MIP deferral, 771.1 status, or an expungement the case history will not appear online or otherwise be available for public inspection.
